“There is an undeclared value to proper planning”

It is this belief that gave Joe Hoogstad a successful 38 year career with The Salvation Army. With his wife Eileen by his side as a fellow Salvation Army officer, Joe led both administrative and operational functions in multiple areas of the country. As Director of Development for Florida, Joe was instrumental in the design and execution of The Salvation Army’s most successful and long running regional Planned Giving program. Joe’s leadership as Director of Development resulted in the Planned Giving program to secure the highest amount of donations in the history of the region, topping $10.5M. The income growth continues to trend upward and Florida continues to lead the region in Planned Giving revenue.

Realizing Joe’s ability to successfully implement programs, The Salvation Army tapped Joe to oversee Capital Campaigns throughout the country. Joe’s expertise allowed for The Salvation Army to run successful Capital Campaigns in Florida, Georgia, California and Colorado.

“Rebuilding boards for long-term success is a must in any non-profit”

In 2010, Joe and Eileen moved to Northern California and settled into the Alameda County area. Joe accepted the Command role for Alameda County and addressed the regions funding, public relations and program service challenges. Understanding the importance of a strong, engaged, and resourceful board, Joe led the initiative to establish a countywide Advisory Board. The implementation of the Advisory Board was the first step in making the Alameda County region a successful and sustainable unit of The Salvation Army.

In addition to Joe’s 38 years of non-profit experience, his accomplishments include work in the private sector. Joe oversaw the day to day operations of secured courier business and also contributed his savvy project management skills to CKB Landscaping, a commercial landscaping company located in the Southeast.

Joe’s robust experience allows him to bring mission clarification, strategic planning, board development and fund raising expertise to any non-profit facing economic and operational challenges.

Joe and Eileen have celebrated 50 years of blissful marriage. Together they enjoy their four sons, along with all of the grandchildren.
